Governing Body Seeks Secondary Care Doctor

A Secondary Care Doctor Governing Body Member is sought for NHS South Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

SLCCG has 15 member practices and serves a population of approximately 163,000 who live mainly in Lincolnshire but also Cambridgeshire, Rutland and Northamptonshire. We are Lincolnshire's lead commissioners for Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn NHS Foundation Trust and we have consistently achieved financial balance with our annual budget of £220million.

The role of Secondary Care Doctor on the Governing Body for the CCG will be to take a lead role as the independent clinical member. It is expected that an experienced secondary care specialist registered with the General Medical Council with current or recent hospital working experience looking after patients will fill this role.

As well as sharing responsibility with the other members for all aspects of the CCG Governing Body business, this clinical member will bring a broader view, on health and care issues to underpin the work of the CCG. In particular, they will bring to the Governing Body an understanding of patient care in the secondary care setting.

The secondary care specialist cannot be an employee or member (including shareholder) of, or a partner in, a provider of primary medical services, or a provider with whom the CCG has made commissioning arrangements. The exceptions are where the CCG has made an arrangement with a provider, subsequent to a patient exercising choice, and where the CCG has made an arrangement with a provider in special circumstances to meet the specific needs of a patient (for example, where there is a very limited choice of provider for a highly specialised service).

There are also further disqualification criteria for members of a CCG Governing Body, which are set out in the Job Description.

The appointment will have a time commitment of 1 day per month with a remuneration payment on a prorata basis to be agreed. The appointment will be for an initial term that ends at 31 March 2020.
