Minor Ailments Scheme

The "minor ailments scheme" has been in operation for about 10 years in some local pharmacies. It is not available across all of Lincolnshire so it advisable to contact your nearest pharmacy to find out that is available locally.

The scheme is aimed at families who can't afford to pay for certain medicines or who can't access their GP easily. Local pharmacists are able to offer over-the-counter advice and consultations. This is particularly useful when GP practices are closed, in the evenings and at weekends, when pharmacies are often open. The pharmacist will make sure that the treatment is appropriate, following a consultation. In some circumstances the pharmacist may refer the patients back to their GP.

The scheme allows patients and their families to get treatment or advice more quickly and more easily. Some of the ailments that can be treated include coughs, colds, headaches, hay fever, insect bites and stings, eczema, earache and diarrhoea.
