Dementia project to start in Crowland

Dementia Support

Local health and well-being charity Tonic Health are teaming up with Abbeyview Surgery and community organisation Crowland Cares to deliver new dementia projects in Crowland.

An introductory open coffee morning has been planned for Thursday 31st January from 9:30am-12:30pm at the Royal British Legion Hall, Broadway, Crowland, PE6 0AW. The three organisations would like to invite all those with dementia, their carers and family members, together with any other local organisations or individuals who would be interested to hear more and help shape what dementia services will look like.

Chair of Trustees for Tonic Health, Michael Morris says “feedback from this event will be used to ensure material and content delivered is what the local population wish to receive. We currently run a very established and successful dementia program in Spalding and wish to expand this service to benefit more across the wider area.”

Tonic Health currently deliver a weekly dementia cafe, Movement 4Memory, a dementia day care service, FOCUS, a monthly carers support group and a reminiscence TV and Film Club. These projects are a mixture of Big Lottery and NHS funding. Tonic Health were recently awarded the South Holland Business Award for Supporting the Community. Meanwhile, fellow collaborators Abbeyview Surgery won a national award at the General Practice Awards 2018 held in Westminster recently.

This project will be backed through help and the assistance of members from Crowland Cares who provide the local knowledge and experience required to make new members feel at home in their new group.

The intention is to provide a regular dementia cafe, for people with dementia, their carers and family members to attend, with a view to expand and establish a dementia day care service within a year, subject to demand.

Attendance on the day is free, and will involve a Dementia Friends session, talks and activities for both carers and cared for, all served with plenty of coffee and cake!
