South Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has today, Monday 30 September 2019, announced the new name for the Johnson GP Centre will be The Spalding GP Surgery.
The announcement of the new name comes after local people were asked during July to share their ideas for a new name for the practice.
The CCG then drew up a shortlist of seven names from those suggested by the public and put these out to a public vote during August. The winning name – The Spalding GP Surgery – will come into effect from 1 October 2019, and was originally put forward by Tim Barzycki, Spalding, receiving more than 25 percent of the votes.
“I am pleased the suggestion I put forward has gone on to be voted for and chosen as the new name for the practice. As a local resident I have maintained a keen interest in the development of the Johnson GP Centre, and will watch with interest as it becomes The Spalding GP Surgery,” comments Tim.
Having awarded a new Alternative Provider Medical Services (APMS) contract to Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS), the CCG was keen to ensure that the new name was announced in time to coincide with the contract start date of 1 October.
“Renaming the practice will allow it to build its own identity and to avoid any confusion with The Johnson Community Hospital, where it is currently based. In line with the views of local people our aspiration is still to base the practice on the west side of Spalding as and when a suitable site becomes available, and the APMS contract we have awarded LCHS has the flexibility to accommodate this,” explains Hilary Daniels, Chair, South Lincolnshire CCG’s Primary Care Commissioning Committee.
“The feedback on the practice and the services it provides has been positive, and we were pleased with the response and support from local people who have got involved in picking the new name. We are confident that The Spalding GP Surgery will continue to go from strength to strength,” adds Hilary.
